Cleaning the mobile phone in times of the Coronavirus, is something perhaps more important than you think, especially considering that mobile phones due to the permanent use we give them, store more batteries than we could ever imagine.
We are going to explain how to clean your mobile phone from the outside, so that you can free it from germs, viruses and bacteria without damaging the phone by using the wrong cleaning products.
Normally we don’t pay much attention to cleaning our devices, and there is no point cleaning the screen using our shirt wet with saliva, steam, or the like.
According to a study carried out by the Dscout platform, we users touch the screen of our mobile phone an average of 2600 times a day, and according to some researchers, on the screen of an average mobile phone, there can be up to 600 types of bacteria, which is 30 times more than those in a toilet bowl, and this is why it is very important to keep our phone clean, especially in these times of diseases such as Coronavirus that are so easily transmitted.
What NOT to do to clean your phone
The first thing to keep in mind is that most smartphones on the market have an oleophobic cover, which means that they have an oil-repellent coating. This coating is there to try to keep the screen as clean as possible, so that fingerprints are not so easily marked. This cover is usually quite delicate and that is why it is important to know which cleaning products to use.
Although if you do not want to lose that layer that is normally applied only on the screen, it is best then to put on the mobile screen a resistant protector such as tempered glass, which is a more common and easy to clean material.
Let’s start with tips on some of the things that are best not to do when cleaning your mobile. For example, it is important never to use scouring pads, abrasive cloths, towels, paper or any other similar cleaning item. Also, do not use sprays or cleaning products such as window cleaning solutions, as they often contain excessively powerful chemicals that are not recommended for these tasks.
As a precaution, it is also convenient to turn off the mobile phone and unplug it before cleaning it. If it gets too wet, you can wait for it to dry before turning it on to avoid possible short circuits that could make you throw the phone away. As always, it is important that no moisture enters the openings and slots in the phone.
Just as you shouldn’t use common cleaning products like those you use to clean the rest of your house, you shouldn’t use compressed air to try to remove dust from your phone, especially from the slots, as the power of the air can damage the phone’s internal components, which are usually very small and less resistant than we think.
Cleaning the mobile phone the right way
Until recently, many manufacturers simply said that it was enough to use a little soap and water to clean the mobile screen. But now, and especially after the problems caused by Coronavirus, companies like Apple have updated their recommendations, and are a little more specific trying to maximize the disinfection of germs when cleaning the screen.
That’s why it’s recommended to cleaning the mobile phone using wipes impregnated with isopropyl alcohol (the kind used to cure wounds) of 70% or more. The wipes should be soft and lint-free to prevent them from sticking to the screen. You must wipe the cloth moistened with alcohol, with gentle movements, preventing moisture from entering the grooves of the phone. When finished, you can wipe away excess moisture with a dry cloth.
Manufacturers such as Apple recommend specific disinfectant wipes designed to kill viruses and bacteria, such as those from brands like Clorox, which are designed precisely for disinfecting all kinds of surfaces.
Care should be taken when cleaning camera lenses to prevent them from becoming scratched and starting to take poor quality images.
Finally, if you have a mobile phone case, it is also important to remember to clean it, as you will always be holding it in your hand. Here, everything depends on the material that the case is made of, but for example in the case of the TPU gel or silicone cases, it is usually enough to remove them, clean them well with soap and water, wait for them to dry and then put them back on the phone.
Anyway, in these times where every year appears a new virus or bacteria more dangerous than the previous ones, it’s a good idea to cleaning the mobile phone whenever possible, because this device brings it close to our mouth and nose a million times a day, making it easier this way that any virus or unwanted bacteria sneaks into our body.
