Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 has been with us for some time now, but being a product almost exclusively belonging to the industry, only few “mortals” can access it. So far; Microsoft has made the purchase of one of these devices available to everyone.

The Redmond firm’s most advanced augmented reality glasses are now available regardless of whether you are an individual, a company or a developer. So, if you have the money, you can buy these glasses from the Microsoft website.

But as we told you at the time, this is a product by and for the industry, and it is priced accordingly. Because if you want to buy these glasses, you will have to pay about 3,500 dollars to get them.

You can now buy the HoloLens 2

The purchase of these glasses is now available from the Microsoft website. For the first time, since Microsoft until now sold the HoloLens 2 as a development edition to developers and companies through external vendors. The price has not changed; we are still obliged to pay $3,500 if we want to get them.

The glasses, which debuted at the Mobile World Congress in 2019, arrived in November last year. Microsoft announced that they would be available by autumn this year in more than 25 countries. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 platform to operate, providing an industry-wide mixed-reality experience that allows users to overlay digital experiences.

HoloLens has a purely business focus, as it has specific applications in business scenarios, being used for training, remote learning, remote assistance, creation of virtual training environments, etc.

Why you shouldn’t buy them

Far from the fact that you don’t have the $3,500 worth of Hololens 2, this purchase doesn’t make much sense to you… unless you’re a developer of augmented or mixed reality experiences. In case you are one of them, Hololens 2 even with its price can be a great alternative to develop industrial applications.

But if you are a technology enthusiast with little or no knowledge of such experiences, buying Hololens 2 makes no sense. Because this is not a platform similar to the Oculus Quest or HTC Vive; the use of these glasses is much more advanced and uses a different approach.

So why has Microsoft put them on sale? Because there are thousands of independent developers who, for the sake of redundancy, specifically develop in augmented or mixed reality and they need all the potential of the Hololens to be able to create their apps.

For Microsoft to open the door to these developers to not depend on companies or developers they are affiliated with and thus acquire the Hololens 2 not only benefits Microsoft itself, but all these users who, fortunately, can acquire such an advanced device.
