IKEA has delayed HomeKit support for its intelligent blinds in Europe

The intelligent blinds from IKEA are one of the home automation accessories most expected by all buyers of this recognized brand, who have not been able to reach the homes of the buyers in time because the implementation of the HomeKit is becoming difficult and increasingly slow. For the time being, users in Europe will have to wait a little longer to be able to control their smart blinds with their iPhone.

Despite the fact that the blinds were announced months ago, at first they only worked through the IKEA app. However, in recent weeks the IKEA control device received a firmware update to make the blinds compatible with other devices and that way they can be controlled more easily.

Ikea is trying to solve different “technical problems” before starting

For now, this firmware update was limited to U.S. users. Regional limitations are normal in releases and are mainly done to better control deployment and to have a more accurate “damage control” in case of problems, which have not been long in coming: It seems that many users are experiencing various problems when using their blinds by installing the HomeKit on Apple devices.

Confirmation of the latter from IKEA has also arrived. In a response to a UK user who asked about the arrival of Homekit compatibility with other devices, IKEA replied as follows:

Hi there, due to some technical issues with the latest update that was launched in the USA, we have had to delay rolling this update out within the EU until these issues have been fixed. We currently do not have a date for this but our team is working on this. Thanks, Jamie

In other words, the launch of the new firmware in Europe will be delayed until the existing problem in the United States is solved. While the release was to be gradual, it now appears to be in limbo indefinitely. Sooner or later the HomeKit support will arrive, but while that happens, it will be necessary to use the blinds through the IKEA app and its own platform.
