The iPhone 12 will be the start of a new conversion in the iPhone family. There will not be 3 iPhones as was already the norm at Apple, but 4; the basic one will try to copy the strategy of the iPhone SE, offering good features in a contained body and price.
The iPhone SE 2020 has been one of Apple’s most controversial devices. It’s basically a reuse of the iPhone 8, retrofitting this phone with new hardware. And we’re talking about a very small device; 4.7 inches of screen, which is a far cry from the standards we have today. However, everything points to the fact that the future basic iPhone 12 will generate even more controversy.
The iPhone 12 will be small
The youtuber EverythingApplePro has printed a leaky 3D model of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 showing that, despite its eye-catching design, it will be even smaller than the iPhone SE 2020.

In the youtuber’s Twitter video we can see a direct comparison between the basic iPhone 12 3D model and the iPhone SE. As we saw in filtered CAD models, there will be 4 models: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, the same size iPhone 12 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. All with notch, 5G, flat edges and OLED screen, although the latter is more doubtful.
But why is the iPhone 12 so small when it has a much larger screen than the iPhone SE 2020? Because of the diagonal of the screen in relation to the frames. The design that began with the iPhone X has been with us for a few generations now and is characterized by very tight frames and a fairly large notch.
While the iPhone SE 2020 has 4.7 inches with fairly large frames, the iPhone 12 would have proportionally more screen in a more contained size, minus the frames. Therefore, for practical purposes, we would have more screen in the body and less edges, making the device smaller but having more screen.
The “real” iPhone SE
There are already users complaining about this, and they consider this size too small. It is true that 5.4 inches is closer to today’s standards, which are well over 6 inches. However, the standard a few years ago was 5.5 inches, so even with those, we are still a little short.
Other users have reproached Apple for making the iPhone SE basically a recycling of the iPhone 8. Many users were eagerly awaiting a so-called cheap iPhone SE that would take on the design lines of the iPhone X; a miniature device with small borders. The dream of every iPhone lover.
So it makes sense that there would be 4 iPhones; thanks to its size, the iPhone 12 will be even more competitive than the iPhone 11, which has given very good financial results and promises to have equally good sales. Those who want a bigger device will be able to opt for the Max model without having to go for the Pro model, which will be much more expensive.
